The historic Bells Mill site near Edinburgh's picturesque Dean Village will accomodate 24 new apartments in three separate blocks overlooking the Water of Leith. The remains of the water-powered mill - a classically designed rubble-walled granary of the early 1800s - will be preserved and form an integral and important feature of the development. Equally Bells Mill House an 18/19th century simple classical property is being restored to its former glory.
The properties will be located within the Dean Conservation Area which forms part of the Edinburgh World Heritage Site and was historically Edinburgh's largest milling settlement, benefiting from its riverside location. Since the 1970s the area has largely been regenerated through the introduction of new residential properties along with the opening of the Water of Leith Walkway which provides access routes going as far as Leith in the east and Balerno in the west.
Designed in clusters these new stone buildings are generally orientated south to overlook the water of Leith and, with extensive areas of glazing to the living areas, will provide highly desirable apartments in the heart of Edinburgh's West End. Private secure car parking, much of this underground, this riverside environment of cobbled courtyards and planting will create a place of immediate appeal.
