From designing townhouses to theatres and clinics to commercial projects, award-winning architect, Gareth Hoskins, is flying high as one of Scotland's most widely acclaimed architects.
After graduating in 1991 from The Glasgow School of Art, Gareth (39 age), worked as an associate with Penoyre & Prasad Architects in London for six years before setting up Gareth Hoskins Architects in 1998.
With 34 members of staff on board, the company has become well-known for its imaginative work on various largescale projects, including the multi-million pound masterplan for the Royal Museum of Edinburgh, the new V&A and RIBA's Architecture Gallery at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, Robin House Children's Hospice at Loch Lomond and a building for families visiting inmates at HM Prison Edinburgh, which received wide acclaim and won an RIBA Award for Design Excellence.
Current projects include designing the 10-year masterplan for the redevelopment of the Museum of Flight in East Fortune and The Bridge in Easterhouse, which will become the home for the newly created National Theatres of Scotland.
Gareth said: "During my time in London I really enjoyed working on a variety of different projects, within the private and public sectors, including local community projects, prominent museums and galleries, housing associations and private developers within the housing, healthcare and educational sectors.
"I was keen to continue this when I set up my own practice in Scotland and the fact that we have a great deal of knowledge across so many sectors has played a large part in our success, along with our extremely professional team on board. As a result we have an impressive portfolio of clients."
The company also regularly takes part in key exhibitions, including the prestigious 'AJ 40 under 40' exhibition, which highlighted 40 of the best architectural practices with a principal under the age of forty, and was the only practice from the UK to be invited to exhibit projects at the Festival Dell'Architettura in Parma Italy.
Gareth also works alongside various property developers around the country, including Premier Burrell, a joint venture between The Premier Property Group and The Burrell Company, to convert a former Barnado's home, Raverlrig House in Edinburgh.
The Ravelrig development in Balerno, recently shortlisted for a RICS Award for Building Conservation, involved converting the original mansion house with steadings into 11 individually designed, luxury townhouses, which boast modern interiors combined with striking traditional features from the original development, dating back to 1826.
Andrew Burrell, Managing Director of The Burrell Company, said: "We have been involved in many major restoration projects in Scotland in the last few years and much of the success of these developments has been down to the fact that we have always got it right when choosing an architect.
"Gareth, who is a very talented and skilled architect and incredibly well-known in the industry, knows how to use space and light to its maximum effect, which allowed us to make this project quite exceptional."
Gareth continued: "Premier Burrell's aspirations and approach to the Ravelrig development has allowed us to combine the thoughtful restoration of the existing buildings, with the careful insertion of contemporary additions to form a series of elegant houses. Unlike many new developments, each property has its very own particular character within the spectacular mature grounds of Ravelrig."
Only one property, a three storey townhouse priced at £495,000, remains available to buy at Premier Burrell's Ravelrig House development in Balerno, Edinburgh.
