The selection of the new partnership follows a prestigious international competition, managed by New East Manchester on behalf of Ancoats Buildings Preservation Trust, the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA).
Murray's Mills development, which will incorporate a mix of 130 residential apartments, business properties, live/work units, a hotel and a textile resource centre, will be built around the restored canal front - enhancing Manchester's World Heritage Site bid.
Lyn Fenton, of New East Manchester, said: "The decision took time but was easy in the end as Inpartnership and The Burrell Company appreciated what we have collectively been trying to achieve. The plans for Murray's will benefit the wider community and also provide new facilities for Manchester as a whole."
Inpartnership and The Burrell Company are confident they can deliver an innovative approach to the re-use of historic buildings that will combine the best features from the original development with a quality new style.
Plans for Murray's Mills were designed by award-winning practice, Richard Murphy Architects, who have established an international reputation for their success of projects in historic environments.
Kate Dickson of Ancoats Buildings Preservation Trust said: "The historic essence of Murray's will be preserved through the sensitive restoration which is already underway, thanks to funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA).
Inpartnership and The Burrell Company will add value with their original, modern plans for the conversion of the complex. I am delighted to be working with them and look forward to the completion of the project.
Graeme Hogg of Inpartnership, said: "Andy Burrell's reputation and experience in delivering heritage regeneration projects is exceptional. We look forward to sharing our joint passion for regeneration through creative investment solutions, quality design and a mix of uses that actively engage the community.
"We have assembled a dynamic and creative team that will guarantee an exciting future for Murray's Mills as part of the wider plans for the area. We at Inpartnership look forward to this very exciting challenge."
Maurice Gubbins, NWDA Area Manchester for Greater Manchester, said: "Ancoats was at the fore of Britain's industrial revolution but was in decline for most of the 20th Century. The area is a priority for the NWDA as part of East Manchester and we are delighted to have the opportunity to help restore these fine buildings."
The Wates Group, one of the UK's largest, privately owned construction and development companies, are currently on site restoring the Mills complex. Bernard Talbot from Wates Group, who grew up round the corner from the Mills, said: "We are exceptionally pleased to be working on the restoration of this internationally important and beautiful historic complex.
"Ancoats was the former industrial heart of the world and every floor of the Mills is living history. We expect to uncover many artefacts - especially when we start to excavate the canal basin. We look forward to involving the local community in this project."
