Work is set to begin on the eagerly anticipated Coalhill 2 development in Leith after BUREDI, a partnership between The Burrell Company and EDI Group, appointed the Tannson Group as principal contractors.
There is already a great deal of interest in the development which follows on from the success of the award-winning Coalhill development built in 2001.
Designed by Edinburgh-based architects, Allan Murray Architects (AMA), who have a reputation for transforming new public spaces in innovative ways, the development will regenerate one of Scotland's most historic locations, being the site of the original parliament and Mary of Guise's palace.
Andrew Burrell, Managing Director of The Burrell Company, said: "Similarly to Coalhill, which is inspired by the nautical references of this particular area in Leith, the development will be modern in design, again representing a vibrant example of the urban renaissance within Scotland.
"Based on the success of the initial phase, we are confident Coalhill will be just as successful due to its distinctive design and location, which is walking distance from the city centre."
Coalhill 2 will boast a similar architectural style as phase one, which won an award for the Best UK Apartment in Britannia's National HomeBuilder Design Awards for its distinctive oval shape.
It will feature 39 light, spacious and open-plan, one, two and three bedroom apartments, built over a deck of secure car parking with lift access to all floors. Most of the apartments have private balconies and all are centred around a private courtyard and overlook the Water of Leith.
Ian Wall, Chair of BUREDI and Chief Executive of The EDI Group, said: "Following the success of Coalhill, we have already received enquiries about the second phase of this development. With the experienced team we have on board, Coalhill 2 is guaranteed to be yet another highly sought after development in Edinburgh."
Situated close by Ocean Terminal and the berth of The Royal Yacht Britannia, Leith is fast becoming one of the most prestigious areas in Edinburgh with a variety of top restaurants, shops and recreation facilities, including a landscaped play facility within walking distance.
Properties are expected to be released for sale in the Autumn and sales enquiries should be directed to Rettie and Company t: 0131 220 4160 or register by visiting www.coalhill.co.uk
