Part of the larger Waterfront Edinburgh Ltd regeneration programme, which will see more than £75m invested in one of the city's most neglected areas over the next 15 years, construction of the initial £20m first phase of The Strand development will start on 10th January.
The development includes over 100 one, two and three bedroom apartments for sale along with 27 apartments for affordable rent which will be managed by Edinvar Housing Association..
Andrew Burrell, Managing Director of The Burrell Company, said: "This is a massive regeneration project, which will dramatically transform the shoreline along the River Forth at Granton.
"Working in partnership with The Places for People Group, all our properties will be built to a very high standard incorporating interesting design and architectural features to truly enhance the area."
Edinburgh and Glasgow-based architects, Reiach and Hall and Elder and Cannon, have joined forces on the six phase project which will see the creation of 500 quality homes over the next five years.
Colin Rae, Development Director in Scotland for The Places for People Group, added: "The Strand development forms an important part of the overall regeneration project as it will not only offer high quality apartments for sale in an area where there is a high demand for new homes, but it will also provide affordable properties for rent, creating a truly mixed community.
"It is fantastic to get the first phase off the ground and we look forward to seeing the properties taking shape over the next few months."
Properties are expected to be released for sale early in spring 2005.
