The origins of Smyllum House go back to the 18th century when a respected local doctor made his home at the spot. Later owners remodelled the original dwelling to give the façade the appearance it has today. During Victorian times the house passed into the hands of a religious order, but by the 1990s it had fallen into a state of decay. The company restored and converted the original house to apartments and added a contemporary-designed courtyard to the rear of the property.
